Volunteers

Our investment in a strong Volunteer Programme provides an effective and highly valued personal return to many isolated and vulnerable older people.

Volunteers play an important part in Bield. In 2001 Bield established a new Volunteer Programme both to develop the work of volunteers and to provide a proper structure for the recruitment, training and deployment of those volunteering.

The number of volunteers has increased more than fourfold to almost 250 persons working with older people in some 60 locations. Their skills and experience are recognised and used to full advantage in the support of older people. Volunteers contribute to a varied and stimulating range of activities: befriending, social events, lunch clubs, craft sessions, outings, silver surfer groups. Volunteers offer undoubted skills, experience and commitment.

Bield volunteers give 20,000 hours a year bringing added quality to the lives of hundreds of older people. We are now looking to develop this major voluntary contribution through Bield’s innovative Social and Personal Care Programme.
