Befriending
Befriending can bring happiness and friendship both to the older person and to the person befriending.
Befriending is an arrangement offering companionship and support on a one to one basis to an older person who is lonely, perhaps having no immediate family or close friends. It can happen through a visit at home, going out for a walk, over a cup of tea or coffee ….. or indeed any way in which friendship is expressed.
The process of befriending, which is developed over time through regular meetings and outings, can bring happiness and friendship not only to the older person but also to the person befriending.
Within Bield befriending is provided in many different environments and locations across Scotland, and is often undertaken by volunteers. Volunteers play an important role, bringing added quality to the lives of many lonely and vulnerable older people.
